The six nail shapes, explained
Almond
Almond tapers gently to a soft point. It makes fingers look longer and slimmer and suits almost every hand, which is why it is the most requested salon shape. Browse almond designs.
Oval
Oval follows the curve of your fingertip with slightly longer sides. It lengthens short fingers, is gentle on weak nails and grows out neatly. Browse oval designs.
Round
Round keeps the nail short with a curved edge that mirrors your fingertip. It is the lowest-maintenance shape and the least likely to snag or break. Browse round designs.
Square
Square has straight sides and a flat tip. It balances long, narrow nail beds and looks sharp with French tips, but the corners can catch if you are rough on your hands. Browse square designs.
Coffin
Coffin, also called ballerina, is long and tapered with a flat tip. It needs length, so it works best with strong natural nails, gel extensions or press-ons. Browse coffin designs.
Stiletto
Stiletto is long and pointed. It is the most dramatic shape and the most fragile, so it is usually worn with acrylic or gel extensions for nights out and events. Browse stiletto designs.
How the quiz decides
The result is based on what nail technicians generally look at: finger length, the width of your nail bed, how much length you can keep without breaking, and how hands-on your day is. It is a starting point, not a rule. If you love a shape, wear it.
